London's biggest extrovert goes powerpop. My past experiences with the music of Patrick Wolf have often been tumultuous. I've slightly admired and mostly ignored his oldest material because of "old times Shaun" being somewhat averse to any music that's not immediately gratuitous. Many critics have often complained that Wolf is pretentious showmanship at its most obvious, and they might be somewhat pleased by this latest record. Because with the gradual releases of singles 'Time of My Life', 'House' and 'This City', there has come an impression that he's ditched the mystere and embraced a kind of Mika (though less childish) optimism. Lupe Fiasco - Lasers, a review

I really enjoyed 'The Cool'. In 2007, when hip hop was a rarity in my music library, it was therefore something of a small miracle for Superstar and Paris, Tokyo to find their way into my plays. Nonetheless, it's been a long time since then and 2011 is a slightly different environment - Jay-Z, Eminem and Kanye have built themselves up as unsurmountable pillars in the eyes of the mainstream, and it seems most artists have to borrow a pop/electro hook from an en trend guest to secure themselves airplay (Eminem/Rihanna, Dr. Dre/Skylar Grey, Taio Cruz/Kylie...) - but Fiasco set himself apart as a somewhat lighter version of hip hop. This approach of course has now been pinched by the likes of B.o.B., Drake and Taio, so it'll be interesting to see if he can hold his territory. Two Door Cinema Club - Beacon

If you're British and have, perchance, watched something on BBC Three over the past 2 years, it's almost certain that you'll have heard a track from Two Door Cinema Club's debut album Tourist History . Granted, it was an album full to the brim with memorable little tunes that were worthy of such promotional appearances, but their sound soon wore thin. I could quite happily go the rest of my life without hearing I Can Talk again, for example. And so the Northern Irish trio move onto their third release (Tourist History was technically their second after a 2009 EP named Four Words to Stand On ) in as many years: although guaranteed success now with their huge media coverage, not to mention frontman Alex Trimble's showcasing at the 2012 Olympics opening ceremony (singing Caliban's Dream ) will the album match up to those exciting little tunes? there were meant to be at least 3 paragraphs here but the album bored me sorry The record's an odd one ...
